WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE

  • Cannabutter aka cannabis butter, or also referred to as “weed butter” — is every stoner’s favourite cannabis infusion — a staple ingredient that can be used for both cooking and baking

  • Keto friendly — or can be made keto simply by swapping out the real butter for vegan butter

  • Easy to make, mess-free, and odour-free!

BEFORE WE GET STARTED

Make sure you have your dried flower weighed out. Remember to record the percentage of THC and/or CBD in the dried flower as you will need it to calculate the potency of your final infusion. I like to use online dosage calculators like this one from Emily Kyle. Feel free to also use more or less dried flower than what I’ve suggested in the recipe below. It really all depends on how potent you want your infusion to be. As a reminder, it’s always best to start low and go slow.

Another way that I use to determine the % of THC and/or CBD in my final product is that I use the tCheck potency tester device. This device can provide an approximate potency test for oils, dried flower, and glycerins. If you use my promo code “CANNABINISTA” you can get $25 off your purchase! Unfortunately for this almond milk recipe you won’t be able to use the device to test, so you’ll have to stick to the traditional calculator method I mentioned above.

INGREDIENTS (+sUBSTITUTIONS)

  • Butter: This fatty ingredient is very popular amongst cannabis enthusiasts because it’s high in fat which compliments cannabinoid absorption. Butter has one of the lowest smoke points amongst all the fats and oil at around 302F. Generally I use it more for baking or if I am using it for savoury dishes, I’ll add the butter after I turn on the heat and let the butter melt using the residual heat. I like to use grass fed organic butter, but you can use regular butter, ghee, or even vegan butter.

  • Dried Cannabis Flower: You can infuse any form of cannabis into butter — concentrates or flower, both work! It ultimately depends on what you want to use the butter for. Concentrates will generally be higher in terpene and cannabinoid percentage so you may want to keep that in mind when calculating the potency of your oil.

TIPS & TRICKS FOR SUCCESS

  1. Investing in a cannabis decarbing and infusing machine was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I have both the LEVO II and the Ardent Fx and both are great options for decarbing and infusing cannabis. I will be writing a review to compare the two in a detailed blog post soon — so stay tuned if you’re on the fence about both! Essentially both of these devices are simpler and newer ways to decarb and infuse cannabis and turn them into lovely oils, butters, and much more. They’re alot easier and cleaner to use than the traditional oven or stovetop or crockpot methods, which I find can leave a lingering odour in your home for many days.

  2. I recommend investing in the tCheck Cannabis Potency Tester so that you can test the potency of your infused coconut oil. Whenever I make cannabis infusions, I will always use dosage calculators like this one from Emily Kyle to determine the approximate range of cannabinoids in my infusion and I will use my tCheck to physically test the oil just so that I have a second point of reference.

  3. Decarboxylation and storage of your cannabis infusion are two very important components of the entire infusion process. Read this post on why you need to decarboxylate and what are the best ways to store your cannabis infusions.

Cannabutter AKA Cannabis Infused Butter

Cannabutter AKA Cannabis Infused Butter

Yield: 24

Prep time: 2 HourCook time: 1 HourTotal time: 3 Hour
Easy, mess-free, and odour free way to make every stoner's favourite cannabutter, also known as cannabis infused butter. Use this infused butter for all your edible baking needs, or even for elevating a juicy steak.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz organic grass fed butter
  • 2.5 grams dried cannabis flower

Instructions

  1. Choose and weigh your starting material.
  2. Break up the dried cannabis flower and put it inside of the Ardent Fx machine.
  3. If you are using THC flower, select the A1 setting. If you are using CBD flower, select the A2 setting. These settings will decarboxylate your cannabis to an optimal temperature and time. This process typically takes 2-3 hours.
  4. Once the decarb process is finished, add your butter into the device.
  5. Select the Infuse setting and allow it to infuse for at least 30-40 minutes. The Ardent claims that the temperature for this setting is ~170F.
  6. Once the infusion is complete, use the Ardent Gen 2 Fx Infusion Press to separate the butter from the dried flower.
  7. Pour the butter into a silicone butter tray.
  8. Allow the butter to cool before putting it into the fridge.
  9. Clean the Ardent Fx machine by wiping down the exterior of the device, and handwashing the inside of the vessel with soap and hot water. The lid can be put into the dishwasher.

Notes

I used 2.5 grams of dried flower (Kush Cookies) that contained 26.6% THC and 5.7% terpenes. Using this online calculator, I determined that the cannabinoid potency would be 6mg of THC per tsp.

Hello! I’m Anna and I’m a cannabis recipe developer and digital content creator with a huge passion for food and the plant. I love creating healthy and delicious cannabis infused recipes as I believe it’s a great way to consume the plant. I’m very lucky to be living in a country like Canada, where cannabis is legalized recreationally and medically.

Outside of making infused recipes, I’m an advocate and educator for the plant, working to end stigmas. I believe that just because you consume the plant, it does not define who you are or your success as an individual. Cannabis consumers come from all walks of life, and their choice behind consumption should be respected.
